Reporter Map was built so that anyone can report problems in their neighborhood — like potholes, broken streetlights, abandoned animals, dengue mosquito breeding sites, or noise — without having to identify themselves to other people. This policy explains, in plain terms, what data the app collects, what it's used for, and how you can control it. It should be read together with our Terms of Use, which you explicitly accept by using the app.

You can use Reporter Map without creating an account. The first time you open the app, we automatically create an anonymous, random identifier, used only to technically tell one user apart from another — this identifier contains no personal data and is never shown to other users. If you uninstall and reinstall the app without an account, a new identifier is generated and the previous one stops being used.
If you want, you can add an account from the Profile screen, signing in with email and password, Google, or Apple (the latter only on Apple devices). The account is optional and only lets you keep your history and regain access if you switch devices or reinstall the app. It's linked to the same anonymous identifier you were already using, so your reports stay anonymous to other people: having an account never puts your name or email on any report.
Use of Reporter Map is intended for people 18 years of age or older, as detailed in our Terms of Use.
We only collect what's necessary for the collaborative map to work:
We do not collect your contacts or social media data. If you don't create an account, we collect no data that directly identifies who you are; if you do, the only such data is the email (or Apple relay address) described above, which is never shown to other users or publicly linked to your reports. The IP address in the access records doesn't directly identify you: only your internet provider can link it to a person, and only under a court order.
To keep the app safe, every report goes through automated checks before becoming visible to other users:
In addition, any user can report an already published report. Reports are reviewed by our team, who may remove the content and suspend the responsible account, usually within 24 hours. Suspended accounts are prevented from creating new reports or interacting with other users' reports.
Approved reports are publicly visible on the map to other app users, with a photo (if any), category, description, and location — but never the author. Whoever submitted the report (whether the anonymous identifier or the account email, if any) is never shown to anyone, on any screen of the app, even internally for display purposes — that information is kept separate and accessed only in a controlled way when needed for moderation (for example, when applying a suspension).
Your home location is never shown to other users, in approximate or exact form — it is used only internally to decide which notifications to send you.
We use trusted cloud infrastructure providers to operate the app — storing reports and photos, authentication (anonymous, email and password, Google, and Apple), sending account emails, sending notifications, usage statistics, and error reporting — plus a map provider to display the map inside the app and a service specialized in automated image analysis for the photo moderation described above. When you sign in with Google or Apple, the sign-in happens on their own service, subject to their respective privacy policies. These providers act only as technical processors of our data, never reselling it or using it for their own advertising.
We only disclose data to authorities under a court order, as provided by the Marco Civil da Internet — for example, the access records described in section 3.
We do not sell data to third parties or use it for ads. Our usage and error reports never include the report's location, and the category is only recorded at the moment a report is created — never while viewing or browsing the map.
Reports and your identifier are stored for as long as they're useful to the app's purpose — for example, to keep your report history and your reputation within the community. Account data, if you create an account, is kept until you delete the account (except for suspended accounts, described in section 8). Your approximate home location, if set, is kept for as long as your identifier exists or until you clear it. Content reports and block preferences are kept for as long as your identifier exists or until you revert the preference. Access records (IP address, date, and time) are kept for 6 months, as required by the Marco Civil da Internet, and automatically deleted afterwards, even if you delete your account before then. You can delete a report you submitted at any time directly in the app.
Signing out doesn't delete anything: the device switches to a new anonymous identifier, and your account stays saved for when you sign in again. Without an account, uninstalling the app stops that device's anonymous identifier from being used.
If you have an account, you can delete it at any time from within the app, under Profile → Account → Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent: we delete your email and the link to Google, Apple, or your password, your reputation counters, notification preferences, notification token, approximate home location, block preferences, your confirmations, resolved marks, flags, and follows on other people's reports, and the internal link between the account and the reports you published. If the account used Sign in with Apple, we also revoke the authorization granted to Reporter Map in your Apple account.
Exception: suspended accounts. If the deleted account was suspended for violating the Terms of Use, we keep a minimal record for security reasons: the account identifier, the email or identifier of the sign-in method used (email and password, Google, or Apple), the date and reason of the suspension, and the link to the reports published by the account. This record is used only to prevent the suspension from being circumvented with a new account, is never shown to other users, and is kept for as long as the suspension is in effect. All other data listed above is deleted as usual.
Reports you've already published are not deleted along with the account: they never showed who submitted them and remain on the map, since other people may have confirmed or followed them. After deletion, they stay on the map with no link to your account, and you lose access to them. The exceptions are suspended accounts, described above, and the access records in section 3, which the law requires us to keep for 6 months even after deletion. If you want a report removed from the map, delete it in the app before deleting your account. See the details in Data Deletion.
In accordance with Brazil's General Data Protection Law (LGPD), you can also request at any time confirmation, access, correction, or deletion of your data by contacting us at contact@reportermap.com. If you have an account, write from the email registered to it. If you don't, since we don't collect data that directly identifies who you are, we may need technical details from you (such as the approximate date of use) to locate the correct records.
Reporter Map is intended for people 18 years of age or older, as detailed in our Terms of Use, and does not knowingly collect data from minors under that age. Since the app doesn't require any personal identification data, there's no technical way to verify the age of who is using it.
Data is stored on cloud infrastructure with access controls and security rules that restrict who can read or change each piece of information. No system is 100% free of flaws, but we adopt reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the data under our responsibility.
We may update this policy to reflect changes to the app or to applicable law. Relevant changes will be indicated by the "last updated" date at the top of this page.
